The PUMA 4x4 is a lightweight, four-wheel armored personnel carrier developed in cooperation between Iveco and Oto Melara for the Italian Army. The main task of the PUMA was to support and complement heavier Centauro vehicles. The vehicle was produced in several variants: personnel carrier, command vehicle, ambulance, and anti-tank missile carrier, making it extremely versatile. The Italian Army ordered as many as 580 units, with 330 in the 4x4 version.

The PUMA 4x4 made its operational debut during a peacekeeping mission in southern Iraq in 2005. It excelled in asymmetric warfare conditions, providing high protection and mobility for military personnel. The vehicle was also used in other missions, such as in Lebanon and Afghanistan.
