Asuka 35-024 JGSDF M4A3E8 Sherman "Easy Eight" 1/35 is an extremely interesting plastic model kit in the popular 1/35 scale. It represents a unique, post-war version of the American M4A3E8 Sherman tank used by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF). This model is a remarkable offering for those interested both in classic armored vehicles and in lesser-known episodes of military history, in which classic Shermans made their way to the Far East after the end of World War II.

The M4A3E8 tank, known as the "Easy Eight", stood out thanks to its then-modern HVSS (Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension) system and wider tracks, which improved the vehicle’s mobility and off-road capability. In addition, the model was equipped with a lengthened 76 mm M1 gun. These tanks were used by the JGSDF in the 1950s and early 1960s, throughout the Cold War era, as one of the main tools for building up modern armored forces following the establishment of Japan’s self-defense forces.

The Asuka Model kit is distinguished by excellent mold quality, cast textures, and realistically rendered details – from armor elements, to periscope devices, and even down to deck equipment and maintenance tools. Inside the box you will find dedicated decals with authentic JGSDF markings and several options for armament and accessories, allowing you to accurately recreate a specific variant from Japanese service.

  • Scale: 1/35 – optimal size for building realistic dioramas
  • Country of use: Japan (JGSDF)
  • Historical period: Cold War (1950s and 1960s)
  • Material: high-quality plastic
  • Additions: JGSDF decals, armament options, details dedicated to this version of the Sherman
  • Category: plastic model kit

This kit is recommended primarily for experienced modelers and collectors specializing in unusual variants of well-known vehicles, but also for people expanding collections of postwar or Japanese armed forces vehicles. The realism of details and possibilities for further enhancement make this model look excellent both on its own and as part of a larger themed diorama.

Build difficulty rating (1–5): 4 – some experience with 1/35 scale models and applying small decals is recommended.

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
