A-Model 72195 Soviet Yakovlev Yak-18 Tandem Two-Seat Trainer Aircraft on skis 1/72

The A-Model 72195 model kit depicts the Soviet Yakovlev Yak-18 tandem two-seat trainer aircraft in its winter version, equipped with skis. The model, in the popular 1/72 scale, is a faithfully reproduced miniature, allowing you to create a replica of one of the most famous training aircraft of the postwar period and the early Cold War.

Historical background

The Yakovlev Yak-18 was designed in the early 1940s and entered service in the Soviet Union in 1946. It served as the primary trainer aircraft for the USSR's military aviation and for many satellite countries such as China, North Korea, and the Warsaw Pact nations. The ski-equipped version allowed training during winter, even in the harsh conditions of Siberia and the Far East. The aircraft was mainly used during the Cold War period through the 1970s, and in some countries for even longer. It also took part in combat missions during the Korean War as a light attack aircraft and liaison plane.

Why choose this model?

The A-Model Yak-18 on skis is a unique model, rarely found in this configuration and ideal for enthusiasts of Soviet aviation as well as collectors of winter dioramas. Cockpit details, realistically reproduced skis, and historical markings give the model exceptional character. The kit is recommended for intermediate modelers (difficulty level 3/5) – it requires precision when assembling the propeller parts and when painting the cockpit and details. This is an excellent choice to expand your collection of Cold War aviation. Faithful details and an original subject make this kit an attractive offering for both hobbyists building models from scratch and experienced collectors.

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
