The German 21 cm Mörser 18 howitzer was introduced into service in 1939 and quickly became one of the heaviest artillery units of the Wehrmacht. The Mörser 18 was distinguished by its double recoil barrel (sliding recoil system), which significantly improved accuracy and fire effectiveness.
