El Polikarpov I-16 Tipo 5 fue un avión de combate soviético del período de entreguerras y principios de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Su distintiva silueta y características innovadoras, como el tren de aterrizaje retráctil y la hélice de paso variable, lo convirtieron en uno de los cazas más modernos de la década de 1930. Sirvió en la Fuerza Aérea Soviética, pero también fue ampliamente utilizado por China durante la guerra con Japón, así como por republicanos españoles y voluntarios internacionales. Los Tipo 5 desempeñaron un papel clave en la defensa de China en 1938.
